Electromotive force study of Li-Sb alloys

Lithium-antimony system attracted a lot of attention recently [1,2] due to its importance in development of novel liquid-metal batteries [3] and lithium-ion batteries [4], as well as incomplete thermodynamic data and discrepancies regarding phase diagram [5].

We used electromotive force method (emf) to study thermodynamic properties of Li-Sb alloys over broad range of concentrations (xLi = 0.1–0.7) and temperature (723–973 K). The Li-Bi alloy (xBi= 0.35) was used as a reference electrode, while eutectic mixtures KCl-LiCl and LiCl-LiF were used as liquid electrolytes. Attempts were made to use coulometric titration method combined with emf to study phase boundaries in the Li-Sb system.

In this presentation we would like to briefly report on features and design of our experimental method. Subsequently, experimental results will be shown and discussed.
