From graphite to graphene, derivatives and analogs. New materials for technological applications

Although it is possible to make graphene by direct synthesis (e.g. CVD), the most practical method for technological applications is the separation of monolayers of graphite. An electrochemical method for exfoliating graphite intercalation reductive providing a material with a minimum number of defects is described. Moreover, studies on the oxidation of graphite are described to produce "graphene oxide " as a starting material for functionalized graphenes. The materials used in the manufacture of polymer matrix nanocomposites application in sensors and three-dimensional electrodes. Finally, preliminary results described in the formation of graphene analogs (molybdenum disulfide, tungsten disulfide, etc.) that can provide superior properties to graphene
